What is in these schemes of work

A scheme of work breaks a term into weeks and lessons before the term starts.

  • Week and lesson numbers across the whole term, matched to the school calendar
  • Strand and sub-strand exactly as the KICD rationalised design names them
  • Specific learning outcomes, the key inquiry question and the core competencies each lesson builds
  • Learning experiences, the resources the lesson needs, and how the learner is assessed
  • A reflection column the teacher fills in as the term runs

It is the document a head of department asks for in week one, and the one an assessment officer checks against the record of work at the end of term.
